Barbara Fritchie (made famous in the poetry of John Greenleaf Whittier) and the medicine of the Civil War are documented in their respective museums on Patrick Street. And the battle of the Monocacy was fought just south of Frederick and saved Washington, D.C. from being burned to the ground!
